Ola ola ola familia!!!!
Okay so i made it to Brazil!! Barely haha just kidding. THIS PLACE IS SO PRETTY oh my goodness. It reminds me of Hawaii. So much greenery and palm trees and ah!! I'm in love with this place and culture - the people are so nice!!
I'm not allowed to send pics here so i guess you will have to wait 4 weeks until you see a pic.
But I'm doing so great. Our flight was super long and we had middle seats so I hardly slept which makes it almost 7 hours of sleep I've had combined between the last two nights! I'm exhausted!
We landed in Sao Paolo and didn't even have to go through customs or anything which was weird! We just had to get our immigration documents approved and then we were ready to get picked up... except there wasn't anyone at the airport waiting for us. It was a little stressful haha. We had to ask someone to borrow their phone but they couldn't understand what we were saying hahaha and then we called the Brazil MTC and they didn't speak very much English either ahhh! But we got to listen to Brazilian music which I am now a huge fan of. About two hours later we got on a bus with some little sweet Brazilian guy that didn't speak a word of English and drove to the MTC!!
Okay for real that was the scariest drive - Brazilians are crazy drivers. We were all so tired at the airport and dozed off waiting. Suddenly I looked up and there was this big pregnant Brazilian woman speaking really fast in Portuguese and we couldnt understand her. Well turns out she was asking for money. We aren't allowed to give people money which ...now I know.
For real you can cut this humidity with a knife oh my goodness my hair is already twice its normal size. But this place is absolutely beautiful!! We were dropped off at the entrance of the MTC and apparently they didnt know we were coming hahahaha but they've been awesome and everything has worked out. We got to meet with the President and his wife and have lunch with them for quite a while!! They are seriously so sweet and so excited to have us. It's funny though - they keep saying it is so dry here and they're in the middle of a drought and need more rain and were all like sweating and wet and sticky and confused because we feel like we are breathing into a vaporizer EVEN INSIDE haha. I can't wait for Manaus.
The food is AMAZING! They have these little Brazilian women make us these home cooked meals. I already had the jello stuff with sweetend condensed milk the Bishop was talking about haha it wasn't bad. And there is a super cute little track outside so that will be good to run on.
My P-day is Friday! We get to go to the Sao Paulo temple every Pday.
We only get 30 minutes to email so sorry if this is scattered. (And there guy is watching over me as I type what the heck?) But we get to go walk around on pdays and go to these little market places so I can buy what ever I need so don't worry. I'm super glad I brought my own sheets though. Laundry and everything is free!!
OH AND GUESS WHAT there are 200 missionaries here and including us there are only 7 Americans. The other 3 leave next week so soon it will just be us four that got here together!! Crazy crazy.
The facility is beautiful here. It's like all white and super clean and there are massive windows everywhere and OUR BEDROOM HAS A HUMONGOUS WINDOW and there is NO SCREEN hahahaha oh my gosh I love Brazil. For real I have the best feeling about this place and I already met one of my instructors! She was such a sweetie. Oh man more and more and more rules here than Provo but I am just doing my best!!
4 weeks until I leave for the field!! I love you all so much and am SO glad that I got to talk to my family at the airport that made everything a million times better. I'M IN BRAZIL Still can't believe it. The gospel of Jesus Christ is true! And so is everything that comes along with it. Can't even wait for this incredible adventure ahead of me.
Love you all so much!!Sister Arbuckle
